Behind the Curtain: Unlocking the Mystery of the Revenue Manager
Director of Revenue Management, Hilton Worldwide – Washington Hilton
John has spent the past 15 years working in the Hospitality Industry, 8 of which have been focused in the Revenue Management field, primarily for Hilton Worldwide.
John grew up in the Houston, TX area and graduated from the University of Houston, Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel & Restaurant Management, with an emphasis in Hospitality Marketing. Prior to graduation he held multiple positions in both hotel F&B and standalone restaurant operations.
Upon graduation John moved into the Revenue Management discipline with Hilton Worldwide, in the Dallas, TX based Revenue Management Consolidated Center as a Revenue Management Consultant. It was there that he was introduced to the fundamentals of Revenue Management and established his foundation of knowledge for years to come. In this role he was the primary Revenue Management contact for up to four mid-size Hilton affiliated properties at any given time. These properties encompassed multiple brands across multiple diverse markets.
After three years in this role John transitioned to the on property role of Director of Revenue on the opening team for the Embassy Suite Houston-Downtown with American Liberty Hospitality. In this role he concurrently was the acting Director of Revenue for all other Hilton branded properties in the American Liberty portfolio.
John later returned to Hilton Worldwide, accepting the position of Assistant Director of Revenue for the 1200 room convention hotel in downtown Houston, the Hilton Americas-Houston. This opportunity allowed him to develop his skillset beyond midsized properties and expand into the world of large, Group driven, convention hotels.
After three years in this role John was promoted to the role of Director of Revenue Management for the Millenium Hilton in downtown Manhattan, New York City. While this was a primarily transient driven property it gave him the opportunity to further hone his skills as an Executive Committee leader for a high revenue yielding hotel in a dynamic and high exposure market.
This experience helped his journey come full circle when in 2015 John was given the opportunity to be the Director of Revenue Management of the iconic and historic, 1070 room convention hotel, the Washington Hilton.
